Thank you Al-Moustaqbal

I wasn't going to post today, but I want to take this opportunity to thank Al-Moustaqbal, for being a beacon in darkness. Thank you for outlining the sexual depravity of the "maids" and "srilankias", and for your intensive research in the sexual escapades of these "people" and our young lebanese boys. Thank you for ignoring the real stories, such as the real rapes that do occur in households, and the real violence that is common in Lebanese families, and the real slavery that the treatment of these workers is akin to. Thank you. Thank you for continuing in pushing the envelope of journalistic pointlessness, and for the talented sugar-coating of fundamental flaws in parts of Lebanese society. Thank you for everything.

  • Yes. That may be a story for "el-chabakeh".

Serious journalism should be talking about the economics of that situation, and/or the heart-rending stories of these people who leave babies behing to come work in Lebanon and elsewhere.

Are there NGO's defending these people? Or this is not as "sexy" as animal rights, bored drugged out youths, and defending the rights of terrorists.

  • Only vox and JW would try to politicize what is a socio-economic tragedy. There must be some way to blame it on Ha and the evil Syrians.

It is shocking that in Lebanon the maids have become indispensilble even in rural households and that one's social status is determined by the nationality of their maid.

A new troubling trend is that Sri lankan, somali and ethiopian men are evident everywhere in menial jobs and will eventually replace those Syrians who "stole" Lebanese jobs.

Worse still, Lebanese are indifferent to the consequences of their reliance on this exploited slave labor.

They contribute to greater profits for lebanese businesses at the expense of Lebanese workers.

  • Issam, try to make sense once in your life. Reread my post. What politicization?

As usual I do not expect a direct answer to a factual question from you (or at least a coherent one).

  • My dear gunslinger,

Your comment in your last paragraph accuses NGO's of ignoring the plight of migrant workers as not being "as "sexy"as animal rights, bored drugged out youths, and defending the rights of terrorists."

Your inference is clear and unfair. Many NGO's are concerned with the plight of migrant worhers as well as other worthy causes.

There, you are not so innocent .

Just because you are a gunslinger does not intimidate me.

  • Oh comon Issam, JW's comment wasn't politicized. I'm curious, are there any NGO's in Lebanon that care about this issue?

  • Thanks Lazarus for continuing to provide coverage for these serious issues. We need to learn how to stop blaming others for all of our problems, and start looking within for putting an end to racism.

  • Lazarus, Jw and I have been sparing for some time. My conscience will not allow me to give any of those rednecks any slack. Vox was blatant. Jw was more subtle, it's his style but his inference was very clear. This issue is not sexy enough for NGOs who in his mind are advocating alternative, liberal, or leftwing issues.

Google- Migrant workers, ngo, lebanon and you will get some good leads on this topic.

  • Sanctimonious Issam is of course the Judge Supremo on who is a redneck, a racist, a traitor to the Arab cause etc..

    Yes Isso, my inference is:

IMHO this issue, abuse of domestic immigrant workers, is very important and should be a primary concern of NGOs, over and above what IMHO are sometimes frivolous issues.

What is your problem? You are free to rank the "immigrant abuse" issue wherever you want on the list of NGO concerns. I just gave my opinion.
