Euh, Say Again? ... Part 2

This is really becoming a surreal cycle. I wake up, open the various news websites, and see a new headline concerning something getting burnt. I will leave this at almost a "no comment", except to quote Fouad Seniora, and to leave pictures:

"This has nothing to do with Islam at all," Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora told Future television. "Destabilising security and vandalism give a wrong image of Islam. Prophet Mohammad cannot be defended this way."

And he's probably right. Such actions are possibly due to anger at repression, certain governmental provocation, and incitement from regional/religious leaders, but regardless of the reason these types of actions also have to do with stupidity, lunacy, idiocy, immaturity, insanity, absurdity, dementia, etc.

The more dangerous thing however, is that this type of behavior, among extreme fundamentalists, isn't new ...

... and to think, just to think, that this is all due to the fact that some Danish author couldn't find an illustrator ...

... and to top it all off, yesterday I watched a peaceful demonstration, against Google Censorship. They were protesting against Google's decision to restict information in China ... I felt ... would envious be the right word? As was written here, shame on us indeed, for so many things.

  • I am sorry, but I can't believe that Islamic fundamentalism has nothing to do with Islam, although I understand Siniora's position.

  • Siniora's job is to provide security, not to talk about Islam and its image problems.

Or at least, provide security then talk about Islam etc....

  • well JW, you're right. But the government has failed in the security aspect since they were first chosen to govern. And to think ... that this wasn't prepared for ...

  • What is ironic is not only that we have failed miserably in containing this episode but that our leaders , political and religious, are continuing to fail us all over the Arab world. Where is the moral outrage from AkAzhar from Jordan from Saudi Arabia etc... Nasrallah asked for violence indirectly when he regretted the fact that no one had shot Salman Rushdie. How can he live with himself. His is the mentality of a second rate gangester. This is the biggest idictment of who we are and what we stand for as a people. We have failed again.

  • How can 20000 people coming from camps and suburbs to Ashrafieh be a surprise to the security forces?

And these sheikhs that we see on the pictures that are pretending to stop the terrorists!!

These people must be stopped, arrested. If they are not Lebanese they must be deported.

If they are Lebanese they must be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

And we need to hear every single muslim cleric in Lebanon apologize for these savage acts!

These are nothing else but terrorists and we must deal with them accordingly.

  • The Lebanese gov't should assert our sovereignty by protecting the embassies, our shepards, and our politicians. Great idea

As for the Islamic terrorists , they are no different than the Christian and Jewish terrorists.

    Anon 10:16,
Are our Muslim clerics responsible for every illegal act committed by a Muslim in Lebanon? If so, let us apply it to all of our religious leaders. Maybe a blanket amnesty is in order .

  • Please, give me a break! At the very least, they are responsible for lending a peaceful voice and proper guidance rather than inciting violence! There is simply no excuse.
