The Ceasefire Lives On

IDF has razed Hezbollah bunkers in Lebanon within past 24 hours
By The Associated Press (September 1, 2006)

Israel Defense Forces troops have demolished an unspecified number of Hezbollah bunkers in southern Lebanon over the past 24 hours, the army said in a statement early Friday afternoon.

The statement said the bunkers contained rocket-propelled grenade launchers, mortar shells, light arms and communications equipment.

The operation took place around the southern Lebanese village of Ayt a-Shab, the IDF said. Ayt-a-Shab was the scene of fierce fighting between Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah militants during the war in the north.

  • Good for the Israelis! Let them blow up every bunker and block every ship!

UNSC 1701 called for the UNCONDITIONAL release of the abducted Israeli soldiers. That's what Lebanon agreed to. Syria, Egypt, and Jordan all returned captured Israeli soldiers per agreement after the cease-fire. Of all the Arab countries, only Lebanon has flat-out broken its word and violated its own honor in this matter. How are the billions of dollars of material aid supposed to reach Lebanon through an Israeli blockade tacitly endorsed by two U.N. resolutions? You're wasting time looking for Israeli "war crimes" - every Lebanese death by Israeli weapons was legitimate under international law, whereas Hezbollahs rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and kidnappings of Israeli soldiers were illegal!

No honor. Few weapons. Fortresses reduced. Dwindling food and oil. Bad shelter. At this rate, how long can Lebanon last without breaking up into little fiefdoms again? If Lebanon can't return the soldiers, why shouldn't Israel deal with the factions individually instead?

You have very little time left to return the Israeli troops. Even if Olmert offers to "negotiate" again, any more delay will only make Lebanon weaker, correct? If you don't return the soldiers you can't expect anything good to follow.
