Which weapons does Israel use in its aggression against Lebanon?

(Translation)

Assafir, July 22, 2006

With what does Israel kill Lebanese? This is a question asked by doctors in Southern Lebanon since they began receiving corpses of victims killed on the roads by Israeli aircraft. Dismembered parts, bloated bodies emanating a rotten smell, and covered with the color of burns even though these bodies were not burnt. This rapid death appears to have been caused by a sudden failure of the nervous system along with blood coagulation, which prevented bleeding. Some have suggested that Israel has used various types of poisonous gases or toxic chemicals in the missiles that were used to kill civilians. However, these suggestions are not necessarily confirmable through an autopsy.

Groups of doctors have sent parts of the corpses of the victims of the Rmeileh massacre for testing in case it leads to anything concrete. While waiting for these results, “Assafir” newspaper asked doctors and hospitals from all regions in Lebanon about the cases they have received, and their thoughts.

Quite a few doctors who have examined these corpses commented in shock on the cases the hospitals have received, even though none of them could fully confirm the nature of the injuries, either because of the siege and the lack of laboratory materials, or because these cases were never seen before.

Even if there are a number of doctors not convinced that Israel definitely used chemical weapons in its war on Lebanon, sources in the Lebanese army do discuss the existence of shells filled with materials that are banned internationally. Dr. Hassan Wazni, director of the hospital in Nabatiyeh, commented on the possibility that Israel has used what is called a vacuum bomb, which sucks the air out of human bodies and stops their breathing, and which results in heart failure.

Please, let's just go with the truth here.

  • "a vacuum bomb, which sucks the air out of human bodies and stops their breathing" :) :) a bomb that does that??? It's good to see that Lebanese keep their humor and imagination :)

Oh, and don't forget those bombs that retrun home with the blood of their victims, so Jews can soak their bread in it!

  • you can be as sarcastic you want, but vacuum bombs (a.k.a. thermobaric weapons) use atmospheric oxygen, as opposed to using their own oxidizer, and leads directly to asphyxia.

and no need to be paranoid. your second sentence is completely meaningless.

  • I still find the entire direction of the thread headline delusional. This is not "Israeli aggression", this is an Israeli response to Hezbollah aggression. Yes, invading another country, attacking their army, killing and kidnapping their citizens results in a "disproportionate response". It always has and it always will. Stop playing victim and work toward solving the problem. Direct your energy to getting Hezbollah to give the kidnapped soldiers back and stopping firing the rockets at Israel. The power to end this in a moment is with Hezbollah. They started it, they can stop it.

This notion that somehow Lebanon is a somehow a "victim of Israeli aggression" is quite silly. Only a moron could believe in their heart that is true.

Hezbollah has the backing of a very rich country, Iran. Make Hezbollah responsible for the refugees. Make them responsible for compensating the families of the dead and injured. Place the blame where it belongs.

  • Not to go in an endless debate about this, but the IAF hasn't stopped violating the Lebanese air space for the last 6 years. So...SHHHH.

Violence only breeds violence. If the kiddies among you are enjoying this, one day you'll grow out of it...

  • Dear Ziad, the IAF may have violated your airspace, but your HA has been bombing Israel's civilians for the past 6 years... I'm sure you now agree that violating airspace was better than living under bombs.

U.S. used chemical weapons in Fallujah- Documentary
    11/8/2005 12:55:00 PM GMT

Italian state TV, Rai, broadcast a documentary which showed evidence that U.S. forces used phosphorus bombs against Iraqi civilians during the bloody offensive on the city of Fallujah in November 2004, BBC reported.

It showed eyewitnesses and former U.S. soldiers who took part in the Fallujah assault saying that white phosphorus bombs were widely deployed in the city as a weapon.

Rai said this amounts to the illegal use of chemical weapons, though such bombs are considered incendiary devices.

The use of chemical weapons is banned by a treaty which Washington signed in 1997.

  • Lebanon Accuses Israel of Using Internationally Prohibited Weapons Against Civilians
President Emile Lahoud accused Israel on Sunday of using banned weapons against Lebanese civilians in its military offensive against the country.
Lahoud said Israeli forces have fired "phosphorus incendiary bombs, which are a blatant violation of international laws, ...against Lebanese civilians."

He called on the United Nations to help "deter Israel from using destructive weapons which violate human rights and the United Nations charter."

In an extraordinary meeting earlier Sunday, the Lebanese government also accused Israel of using banned weapons against Lebanese civilians.

"We are facing a real annihilation carried out by Israel," Information Minister Ghazi Aridi told reporters after the cabinet meeting.

"Israel is using internationally prohibited weapons against civilians," he said.

Military sources told Agence France Presse that Israel had used phosphorus incendiary bombs and implosion bombs, which suck up the air and collapse buildings.(AFP) (AFP photo shows Lebanese citizens surveying damages after an Israeli air raid on Zebqine, 85km south of Beirut)

  • Here is another link people can use to donate, through the ICRC. I think it is the easiest for us Americans to use, because it allows donations through credit cards (which we have an unhealthy infatuation with) Most of us wouldn't know what to do with bank account numbers. Just be sure people check "Lebanon" in the Programme option on that page.
