Asad and Berri

Does anyone else find the following funny?

  • Laz,

I guess words have lost all meaning in he Arab world.

this is as funny (or meaningless) as Lahoud: "if i resign now, I'd be a traitor", or the Syrians celebrating March 8, the day their country went down the toilet etc

  • And why was it given to newspapers to publish if not for Berri to let the Syrians know that, "hey guys, in case this new revolution thingie doesn't work, I am still your MAN."

Or, maybe Berri was being blackmailed by the Syrians in that if he doesn't publish this letter which Berri I am sure sent secretly and not for the world to know, the Syrians may have threatened to reveal something even more embarassing, like, let's see, the Syrian secret service has pictures of Berri picking his nose whilst in the toilet in the grand serail with a half-eaten falafel sandwich hanging over the marble sink?

    That is the mystery!

  • Some of the best things about the March 14 demonstration were the humorous signs. We have become way too serious since then. How about we offer Mr. Berri a "Someone in Damascus loves me" T-shirt to wear at the next Hiwar meeting?

  • Or, kiss me, I love fa'ouss.

  • JW, your analogies are spot on.

    Anon, mystery indeed.

Bia, i haven't heard that saying in ages!

and yes ms L., that t-shirt is definitely a good idea. i have the perfect picture of berri (smiling, in sunglasses, and riding a donkey) that we can put on the back.

  • Laz, is it only me or did you by mistake provide the wrong link?

BTW how I wish that one of the Mehlis tapes will implicate Berri directly.

I will never forget his attitude around a year ago when he said something to the effect that we (meaning his group) do not need anyone to tell us what is democracy, we have been teaching it to the world, or something to that effect. No Arab country has ever had any experience with democracy. Who does he think that he is bluffing when he makes such remarks. Doesn't he realize that all these remarks are a reflection on himself. I try usually to check my personal feelings at the door but Beri just gives me the creeps.
