Blatant Propaganda

Future TV’s anchor, during its evening news broadcast, called the current times “Lahoud’s black era.” Let’s just say it as it is. Instead of trying to create history, some politicians are trying to change it. And journalists, instead of trying to keep a semblance of integrity, follow along without hesitance. This quote is just one example of many.

Update: On a slightly different note, Ibrahim El-Amine, who has previously had issues with some of the March 14 leaders, has apparently resigned from Assafir.

  • In Lebanon, we have always prided ourselves for the large number of newspapers and for the freedom that it enjoys.

Regrettably we do not have much, if any, of a professional, responsible objective media. Witness Almanar, the voice of HA; Almustaqbal voice of the Harriris; AlDyar the Syrian voice ; Lbc the voice of the LF etc...

It is unfortunate that Almustaqbal and others do not realise that when they devote much of their coverage to propaganda then that does not serve their purposes because it detracts from their credibility.

I now of no responsible journalist that will lead the news with a subjective statement irrespective of its veracity in his/her mind. All journalist have the opportunity to opine in editorials or columns but the pure reporting of the news must be purely objective.

BTW, how does one reconcile the strict limits that the Lebanese Journalists Association imposes on the price and even size of a newspaper and free enterprise? Also how does a professional press justify not informing the public by not publishing 10-14 days a year???????????????
