Question

I wasn't going to ask this question here, but I haven't found much about it in the news, and the replies I got from some friends back home didn't answer much. Since it has been irritating me for a few days, here it is.

Is it true that Ibrahim Al-Amine, from Assafir, has been "banned" from writing?

If it is - then it is one of the ultimate travesties of Lebanese "freedom of speech". Will anything be done about it?

  • My sources say he was "banned", or actually that the paper was pressured to ban him.

  • Freedom of speech means that the state can't sue you for saying something. It doesn't mean that a paper is forced to publish you or that anybody is forced to listen to your opinions.

You can't shout your opinions in my bedroom and forbid me from expelling you because of freedom of speech.

If CNN refuses to air you, they don't violate your freedom of speech.
